Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle need to strengthen their squad next season if they are to compete in the Premier League and Sigurdsson would be a fantastic addition. The 27-year-old has become a proven player in the top flight and is technically gifted. The midfielder is hard working and chips in with a solid number of goals and assists. A midfielder combination of Jonjo Shelvey and Sigurdsson would certainly be an exciting one, so the Magpies should do everything to try secure his signature. Sigurdsson does posses the ability to play in almost any side in the Premier League and it would be a huge statement if Newcastle pull off a deal for his signature.
