Newcastle are eyeing a move for Inter Milan forward Stevan Jovetic this summer, according to a report.
Italian news outlet TMW have claimed on their website that the 27-year-old wants to wait to see how much chance he would get of a first team place in the Inter team in the new campaign.
However, it is also stated that, that hasn’t stopped the north east giants from pursuing the 46-time capped Montenegro international, who is being valued at £12.7million by the San Siro giants.
Jovetic is also known in England for his time at Manchester City between 2013 and 2016, which saw him play 30 times in the Premier League, returning eight goals and five assists.
Last season the attacker spent the first half at Inter before joining Sevilla on loan in January until the end of the season.
For both clubs he returned seven goals and five assists in 29 appearances in all competitions and those starts could be what is attracting Benitez to him.
Football Insider verdict:
Jovetic has found himself on the fringes of both the Manchester City and Inter Milan team now, but there is certainly a very good attacker there. Some may have felt that he was slightly unfortunate not to make the City team more often after a number of strong displays. His stats in the Premier League also show that he is more than capable of becoming a very good source of both goals and assists for Newcastle and if there is a chance of the Magpies signing him then they must pursue it as he could be the club’s best piece of business this summer.
