Newcastle United’s former goalkeeping stars Shay Given and Steve Harper have both taken to Twitter to rave about the performance of Martin Dubravka in the club’s win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The Slovakian international arrived at St James’ Park on a deadline day loan deal in January, and after appearing as an unused substitute in last week’s draw against Crystal Palace, took the place of Karl Darlow between the sticks for the visit of the Red Devils.
He played a crucial role in securing victory over Jose Mourinho’s men, pulling off a number of impressive saves and commanding his box to keep the opposition attack at bay, with Matt Ritchie’s goal down the other end securing a 1-0 victory for the club.
After the final whistle both Given and Harper, firm favourites of the Toon Army after their long spells on Tyneside, were both left singing the praises of the new shotstopper.

Between them, Given and Harper have over 600 appearances under their belts between the sticks for the Magpies, and appear mightily impressed with the club’s latest acquisition.
Dubravka, who has a permanent transfer clause included in his loan deal, will be fighting with Darlow an Rob Elliot to retain his spot in the starting XI between now and the end of the season.
In other Newcastle United news, Jose Mourinho had some interesting words about the Magpies after their victory over his side.
