'Awful all season', 'Woeful' - Newcastle fans' favourite blasted in draw v Brighton

Newcastle United fans have turned to social media to blast the performance of midfield star Matt Ritchie in the club’s clash with Brighton on Saturday.

The Magpies laboured to a 0-0 draw against their south coast opposition, in a match lacking in attacking threat from either side.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez had chosen to make seven changes to the starting XI from the side which put up a spirited performance in the 1-0 defeat to runaway league leaders Manchester City on Wednesday.

Among the wholesale changes was the return of fans’ favourite Matt Ritchie, rested against City with Benitez keeping one eye on the clash against Brighton.

However, despite being given the opportunity to charge his batteries and come back fighting fit against the Seagulls, he failed to impress, lacking the creative spark needed to score or create a goal which may well have sealed the three points.

The Toon Army were less than impressed with what they saw from their star man, and took to Twitter to berate his display.
