Newcastle fans predict early Benitez exit on Twitter after second consecutive defeat

By Harvey Byrne

Newcastle fans have predicted an early departure for manager Rafa Benitez on Twitter following the club’s 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield on Saturday.

The Magpies suffered a second consecutive league loss by following up their season opener loss to Fulham with the setback against the Yorkshire side, who are the one of the bookmakers’ favourites to be relegated.

New striker signing Dwight Gayle levelled the scoreline on Saturday after Nakhi Wells broke the deadlock, but substitute Jack Payne won the match for the Terriers with an 82nd minute goal.

Benitez took over from Steve McClaren in March and signed an updated contract in June to huge fanfare among supporters following relegation.

But Magpies fans are predicting that the former Real Madrid boss could leave the club within months.

He has brought Matz Sels, Ciaran Clark and Jesus Gamez to the club and has also invested in Championship experienced players with Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie, Grant Hanley, Mohamed Diame and Isaac Hayden joining the north east club.

In other Newcastle team news, captain Jamaal Lascelles has guaranteed fans that the club will not lack any personality under his leadership.
