Newcastle United fans have hit out at "incompetent" refereeing after their 2-0 away loss at Crystal Palace on Wednesday (24 April).

The Magpies had a penalty shout denied on-field and by VAR after Sean Longstaff looked to be pulled down by Will Hughes in the box.

Longstaff, who started the game alongside Bruno Guimaraes, was booked for dissent after protesting the decision from Tom Bramall.

Newcastle went behind after 55 minutes after Crystal Palace dominance throughout, with Jean-Philippe Mateta opening the scoring.

The Eagles then doubled the lead after the Longstaff penalty shout, with Mateta grabbing his brace with a smart close-range finish.

Newcastle sit seventh in the Premier League and are now three points adrift of Man United in sixth with five games remaining of the 2023-24 campaign.
