Newcastle United fans were left raving on social media over the performance of left back Paul Dummett during the club’s 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Magpies had a day to celebrate at St James’ Park, having got off to a flyer of a start, Brazilian winger Kenedy netting just after 60 seconds from kick off against their relegation rivals.

The Chelsea loanee netted again in the 29th minute after a blistering counter attack from the Magpies, before fellow winger Matt Ritchie got in on the act with a drilled first time shot from outside the box.

However, despite the shining performance of the Newcastle attack, it was the display of Dummett which caught the eye, as he marshalled the Saints’ own forward line with ease.

He was celebrated with his own chant at St James’ Park, and the Toon Army also turned to Twitter to voice their delight over the 26-year-old, who is a mainstay of the Magpies’ defence.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

After being ruled out for much of the first half of the campaign, having picked up a hamstring injury in the first game, he has returned to make a total of 13 appearances across all competitions.
