Andros Townsend joined Newcastle from Tottenham in the January window

By Amir Mir

Newcastle’s bid to secure a deal for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has advanced – and fans on Twitter are desperately hoping the deal gets pushed over the line.

The Mail claim the two clubs are “continuing negotiations” over a proposed deal for Townsend to re-join the Magpies this month.

It is said that Townsend is “open” to a second spell at Newcastle but would initially prefer a loan move until the end of the season.

A return to St James’ Park would seal a shock transfer for Rafa Benitez’ side because the England international only left the club for a fee of £13million six months ago.

Back then Townsend stated that playing top-flight football was crucial to him getting back in the England reckoning.

However, his form has dipped at Selhurst Park, but Magpies fans on social media would still be pleased to see him make a return.

One supporter even predicted what Benitez’ starting line-up would be if Townsend arrives at the Championship leaders.

Another fan expressed that with the rumours building up, he is now beginning to believe that the deal for Townsend might happen.

Another supporter stated that he cannot see any negatives in Townsend returning to the north east.

Townsend has scored just one goal all season as his current side sit in the relegation zone with former Magpies boss Sam Allardyce in charge.

Overall, the Newcastle faithful were pretty clear that they were happy to see Townsend return to the club, but were wondering how much it would cost them.
