Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Lascelles display v Brentford
By Dominic Toner
Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles played 90 minutes in the win against Brentford – and the club’s supporters were highly critical of his performance on Twitter.
The Magpies earned a narrow 2-1 away victory over Brentford but Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden and Vurnon Anita were all forced off injured.
Gayle opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a good finish from a tight angle, but Lasse Vibe equalised after half-time from a corner.
Newcastle then earned the three points as substitute Daryl Murphy scored a well-placed header in the 79th minute, but they were involved in a tight affair against a spirited Brentford side.
The club’s supporters were critical of Lascelles’ performance despite the win over Brentford and some suggest that he should be dropped for their next game.

Think it's about time Lascelles was dropped, been poor for a while now. Can't organise the defence and concede sloppy goals #NUFC

Lascelles has been a regular feature in the club’s starting line-up this season and has made 29 appearances across all competitions.
The 23-year-old centre-back was also appointed the club captain and is regarded as an important player at St James’ Park.
However, the defence has not kept a clean sheet in their last five league matches and they will be keen to rectify that if they are to continue their pursuit for promotion.
Benitez could introduce Grant Hanley to the starting XI if he wanted to mix he centre-back combination around, with Ciaran Clark delivering a good performance on Saturday.
Newcastle have moved up to first in the Championship table with the Brentford win and leapfrogged Brighton, who suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Preston.
