Newcastle United fans have taken to social media to rave over news that fierce rivals Sunderland have shockingly sacked manager Chris Coleman on Sunday following their relegation to League One.

The Black Cats have had a disastrous time since falling out of the Premier League last season, when they swapped positions with the title winning Magpies, and after their second successive relegation was confirmed, they will now finish bottom of the second tier after losing 2-1 to Fulham on Friday night.

Two days later and the Wearside club confirmed, via their official Twitter account and website, that Coleman, who took charge midway through the campaign, as well as his assistant Kit Symons, had been released from their contracts with just one game left to play, a home clash against champions Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The north east side also revealed that owner Ellis Short had agreed a deal to sell the club after prolonged attempts to end his tenure at the Stadium of Light, with a consortium led by the chairman of Eastleigh FC taking over.

The stunning revelation was taken in good spirits by the Newcastle supporters on Twitter, who made the most of their chance to rub their rivals’ noses in it as their plight unfolds further.
