Newcastle United fans on Twitter don’t know whether to laugh or cry over the news that their newly promoted side are interested in signing Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.
The Sun has reported the midfield superstar, 33, is not willing to sign a new deal at Eastlands and there are a number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, who are monitoring the situation closely.
It’s well documented that Toure and current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola fell out at the start of the season following comments made by the player’s agent.
The dispute saw the midfielder on the sidelines and he didn’t make a Premier League start until mid-November when he scored a brace away at Crystal Palace in a 2-1 win.
The Ivorian has had one of his quietest campaigns under Guardiola as he’s only made 22 appearances in the league this season, scoring four goals and not providing a single assist.
Nevertheless, Toure is a bona fide Premier League icon and one of the outstanding central midfielders in the last 10 years to play in the top flight.
With the news that Toure could potentially move to St James’ Park next season, the majority of Newcastle fans are simply enjoying the fact that their club is being linked with such a player.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Despite being at the end of his career, Yaya Toure is still more than capable of making a difference especially with his vast experience of Premier League football.
Toure has made 217 league appearances since joining Manchester City from Barcelona in 2010, scoring a total of 61 goals and winning two Premier League titles.
