Mohamed Diame delivered a poor display against Norwich in Newcastle’s 4-3 win on Wednesday evening – and supporters of the north east side took to Twitter to heckle the attacker.
The Senegal international started the match in an attacking midfield role and played 71 minutes in the Magpies victory.
The Toon battled back to a late victory with Norwich 3-2 up before Yoan Gouffran bagged and Dwight Gayle completed his hat-trick in stoppage time in a sensational comeback.
Diame, 29, did not impress the club’s supporters and many took to social media to compare him to former attacker Moussa Sissoko.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Diame doing a passable Sissoko impression at the moment #NUFC

Diame needs to put a shift in tonight. He's looked far too much like Sissoko so far #nufc

I really don't like this Gayle & Diame partnership doesn't seem to be working at the minute. I think Mitro would be a better shout #NUFC

I honestly don’t remember hearing Diame’s name once this evening. What does he actually do? #nufc

Diame dropped down to the Championship from newly promoted Hull in the summer.
He has already made nine appearances for the club, but has so far only provided one assist and failed to bag a goal from an attacking position.
Fans of the Magpies will have been overjoyed with the late victory after failing to win in their last two league matches.
They will see the clash against Rotherham as the perfect opportunity to start a run with the Yorkshire club bottom of the league.
