Newcastle United fans have been left rolling around in laughter on social media after the club’s Twitter account targeted a cheeky jibe towards fierce rivals Sunderland.
The Magpies and the Black Cats have endured vastly differing fortunes this season after swapping divisions, Sunderland falling into the Championship while Newcastle rose from the second tier as champions.
Now Rafael Benitez’s men sit 10th in the Premier League after an impressive run of form, a feat which has not been replicated by their near neighbours, who sit 23rd and facing the real prospect of a second successive relegation, with six points separating them from safety and just four matches left to play.
The Black Cats’ plight has been well received on Tyneside but the Wearside club has ensured Newcastle fans will not be able to celebrate their demise at the Stadium of Light, with tickets now no longer available from cash turnstiles on match day, as revealed by Sky Sports.
With Newcastle’s Sunday clash against Arsenal a sell-out, the Magpies took the chance to target their rivals with a snide attack via social media, stating on their official Twitter account: “It’s another sell-out at St. James’ Park this weekend. (No cash turnstiles)” with a wink emoji highlighting they knew exactly what they were doing.
