Newcastle United fans have taken to social media to slam fringe striker Ivan Toney for his snide attack on the club after they failed to wish him a happy birthday.

The 22-year-old, who joined up with League One outfit Scunthorpe United in the January transfer window after cancelling his loan at Wigan Athletic, celebrated his birthday on Friday.

However, he was left annoyed by the lack of birthday wishes from his parent club, with his loan side taking to Twitter to mark the occasion, and he turned to the social media site to launch a sarcastic remark towards the Magpies.

On his personal Twitter account, he said: “At least one club wished me a happy birthday.”

However, the Toon Army were left less than impressed by the youngsters antics, slamming him on Twitter and telling him to grow up for what they deemed to be a petty incident.

Toney has made just four appearances for the senior side at Newcastle since joining from Northampton Town, and has spent much of his time out on loan.

His spell with Scunthorpe has seen him score three goals in eight appearances, after netting six in 28 for Wigan.
