Angel Gomes is open to returning to the Premier League in 2025 amid interest from Newcastle, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources have told Football Insider that the Magpies are keen on a potential swoop for the 24-year-old breakthrough England star.

It is believed Newcastle are just one of several English clubs to hold a “concrete interest” in the Lille midfielder.

Gomes' contract is set to expire in 2025 and his status as a potential free agent is attracting strong interest from the Premier League and around Europe.

The newly-minted England international came through the ranks at Man United before leaving for Lille in 2020.

He made 10 senior appearances for the Red Devils before leaving for regular first-team football in Ligue 1.

He has raised his profile at home with his performances with England in Nations League fixtures against Ireland and Finland earlier this month.

Gomes has already made five appearances for Lille in the 2024-25 campaign and helped them qualify to the league phase of the Champions League.

Newcastle are no stranger to taking advantage of the free agent market after swooping for Lloyd Kelly in the most recent summer window following the expiry of his contract at Bournemouth.

Gomes would be competing with the likes of Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali for a spot in Eddie Howe's starting lineup.
