Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin is set to hand the club a significant boost ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, according to a report.
The Newcastle Chronicle claim that the 23-year-old is set to return to the club for pre-season training ahead of schedule, after he was omitted from the preliminary USA squad for the upcoming Gold Cup.
Yedlin was expected to miss the majority of the summer period due to his international commitments, but his absence from the USA squad means he will be available for Newcastle’s pre-season preparations.
The tournament begins on July 7 and runs until July 26, meaning Yedlin could have been absent from Newcastle’s preparations for the new season until the start of August.
His late-return date would have made him a doubt to feature at the start of Newcastle’s Premier League campaign next season, given his lack of rest over the summer.
However, he now looks set to join up with his Magpies team-mates next month, after Benitez pencilled in a July 3 pre-season return date for his first-team squad.
Yedlin is currently on international duty for the World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico, and will be afforded a short holiday period following their final fixture on June 12.
The right-back was a regular feature of the starting eleven at St. James’ Park last season, making 32 appearances in all competitions as they lifted the Championship title and sealed promotion to the top-flight.
