Newcastle in hunt to sign 6ft 7 colossus from top-four club after he snubs Real Madrid - report
Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign Hajduk Split goalkeeper Carlo Letica, according to a report.
The Sun on Sunday [print edition, 29 April, page 60] claims that the Magpies are leading the race to sign Letica, 21, after the 6ft 7in colossus snubbed advances from Manchester United and Champions League semi-finalists Real Madrid.
It is understood that Rafa Benitez sent one of his top scouts to monitor Letica last week when he played for Hajduk Split, who are currently third in the Croatian top-flight.
The Croatia Under-21 international has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Hajduk this term, and has even scored one goal when he netted a last-minute winner over NK Istra in March.
The Sun on Sunday adds that Benitez does not see Letica as being ready for the Premier League just yet, so he may plan to loan him out to the Championship.

It would be quit the coup for Newcastle to sign a player who has turned down two of the biggest clubs in the world recently, but that means that they may have to pay a good amount to bring him in. Martin Dubravka has been a great signing for the club and it seems that he may be the number one goalkeeper next term if he is signed permanently. Getting in Letika is a brilliant option for the future and sending him on loan to the Championship to get him accustomed to life in England is a good strategy. Newcastle fans should be very excited about potentially signing the Croat.
In other Newcastle United news, Magpies fans have been drooling over this Sunderland player and have urged the club to sign him in the summer.
