Newcastle have been installed as the clear favourites to re-sign Crystal Palace attacker Andros Townsend this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Sky Bet have price the north east giants at 13/2 to bring the 26-year-old back to St James’ Park.
Astonishingly, Premier League giants Liverpool are also considered to be in the running for the right-winger, but they trail Newcastle by some distance at a price of 20/1.
There have been no recent reported links between Newcastle and Townsend, but throughout the winter window there was heavy speculation that Townsend would be returning to the club with Sky Sports reporting on February 1 that both the Magpies and Crystal Palace were unable to agree a financial package for the player.
Townsend originally joined Newcastle in January 2016 in a £12million deal from Tottenham and he proved a success, scoring four times in 13 matches despite the club’s relegation.
He then departed St. James’ Park the following summer in a deal worth £13million to Crystal Palace, stating he didn’t want to jeopardise his England career by playing in the Championship.
The attacker has only played twice more for the Three Lions since his move, taking his caps up to 13 at senior level and he may look for a move to a club he knows well with the World Cup coming up next summer.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are in a three-club chase for this Premier League hitman.
