Newcastle United are interested in signing centre-forward Kerim Mrabti from Swedish top-flight club Djurgardens, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claims in its live transfer blog (4:32pm, Saturday) that the Magpies are prepared to offer £1million to secure his signature.
It is understood that he is also attracting interest from Udinese and Bruges, with his contract set to expire in December.
Football Insider verdict:
Mrabti is a fairly unknown quantity that is yet to play in England and it is hardly a move that will excite Newcastle fans. The 24-year-old has scored five goals in just 14 appearances so far this season, but it’s unclear on if he could be a success at St James’ Park. He has been compared to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and may be involved for Tunisia against England in the World Cup. Rafael Bentiez desperately needs to improve his attacking options ahead of next season, as the likes of Dwight Gayle and Joselu don’t possess the firepower required in the top flight. Newcastle need to invest heavily on a proven centre-forward if they are to progress next year and ideally have to bring in someone who knows the Premier League. They should consider a swoop for someone in the same mould of Daniel Sturridge, who has proven he is clinical in the top flight.
