Newcastle are lining up a second move to sign Stoke forward Joselu, according to a report.
The Shields Gazette claim that the Magpies are considering making a second bid for the 27-year-old from their Premier League rivals.
It is understood that Rafael Benitez’s side have already seen a first attempt rejected by Stoke following a “derisory” bid.
Stoke are believed to be keen on selling their striker this summer and that Newcastle want to bolster their frontline before the start of the season.
Joselu has endured a frustrating time since he moved to the bet365 Stadium in 2015 and has been unable to impress in English football.
The forward has made just 27 appearances for Stoke, scoring four goals and supplying four assists in return.
He spent last season on loan at La Liga club Deportivo and did manage six goals in his 24 games.
Benitez wants to bring in another striker to St James’ Park that can compete alongside Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle want to sign an extra forward to help their chances of Premier League survival and Joselu doesn’t appear to be the right fit. The 27-year-old is yet to make an impression on English football and his best performances have come in Spain. He showed during a loan spell at Deportivo that he can find the net and has also represented Real Madrid at senior level in the past. Newcastle should certainly not be splashing out to secure his signature after seeing an initial offer turned down by Stoke. The Magpies could be best served turning their attention elsewhere and trying to bring in someone with greater experience.
In other Newcastle transfer news, odds have been slashed on the club signing a left winger.
