Newcastle must smash title winners aside and snap up reported £1.5m bargain for former PL flyer
When it comes to Newcastle United’s transfer window, they will be fighting every side in the Premier League for their targets – and the multi-billion pound owners elsewhere makes Mike Ashley’s wealth look like peanuts.
Not that the Magpies ever see any of the Sports Direct supremo’s cash make their way to them, with the north east club almost self-sustainable with transfer fees set to fund any new recruitment this summer .
It is a far cry away from what is going on at Wolverhampton Wanderers, whose Chinese owners, Fosun international, have shown off their financial clout to blast their way to the Championship title and return to the promised land that is the Premier League after years away.
Newcastle will be feeding off bargains while Wolves seem likely to continue their heavy spending – which makes their latest reported target something of an anomaly.
The Daily Mail claim on their website that the Molineux outfit are readying a swoop for former Southampton winger Eljero Elia this summer, with a bargain fee of just £1.5million mooted to take him from Turkish side Basakehir.

The 31-year-old flyer made 16 Premier League appearances during a loan spell with the Saints, and has impressed in Turkey, with eight goals and three assists in his 29 outings, and a move back to England seems on the cards.
However, despite the second tier title winners reportedly making Elia a priority capture, it should be Newcastle pouncing on an absolute bargain of a deal, especially with the future of current winger Kenedy up in the air.
With 28 caps for the Netherlands, the £1.5million fee is a steal for a man of his experience, and is certainly a price tag which fits into Newcastle’s expected budget this summer.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the club have sent their senior figures out on missions to snap up bargains.
