Newcastle are in negotiations with Independiente for left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, according to a reliable journalist.
Independent writer Peter Coates claimed on his personal Twitter account on Saturday afternoon that the Magpies were in discussions over a seven-figure fee worth £3.7million for Tagliafico, 24.

It is understood that the one-time Argentina international could have been making his final appearance for Independiente on Saturday, when his side beat Huracan 3-1.
The reliable journalist added that there are other clubs from across Europe that are interested in the highly-rated left-back,
Tagliafico made 27 appearances across all competitions last season and earned his first international cap for Argentina in June when he played against Brazil in a friendly fixture.

There is no doubt that Newcastle are in need of a left-back before the transfer window slams shut next week as Paul Dummett is currently sidelined with injury.
Chancel Mbemba, who is usually a centre-back, has been filling the gap in recent weeks, but it now seems that Rafa Benitez is on the lookout for a more permanent solution.
Football Insider Verdict
Tagliafico looks like a good prospect. He’s still got plenty of time ahead of him to develop his skills and could become a decent left-back for the Magpies, who definitely need someone to provide back-up to Dummett or completely oust him from the first-team. Tagliafico must be highly rated in Argentina having earned a full international cap, despite never playing for a top side outside of his home nation, which is what most of the top internationals do in South America. Independiente are one of the top teams in Argentina so it’s likely that Tagliafico will be more than ready to cope with the pressures of playing in the Premier League and at St. James’ Park.
