Newcastle open talks on second swap deal in shock twist after Alexander Isak news

Newcastle United have opened talks with Nottingham Forest over a deal to sign Anthony Elanga with Elliot Anderson heading in the opposite direction, sources have told Football Insider.

It is understood Newcastle are offering cash and Anderson to Forest in exchange for ex-Man United wide man Elanga.

Football Insider [6 May] revealed Elanga would have to leave the club he joined for £15m from Manchester United if Forest were relegated.

There is now a strong possibility that the forward will depart regardless as the club look to rapidly raise funds by Sunday’s accounts declaration deadline.

The proposal for Elanga is one of several being juggled by Newcastle at present as they and other clubs scramble towards the deadline, in which all English clubs must abide by PSR ruling.

Eddie Howe’s side were previously tracking the 22-year-old prior to his switch to Forest last year, and may have to source a quick replacement for Anthony Gordon, who has been the subject of talks with Liverpool.

It comes during a blizzard of transfer activity at Newcastle, with the club also involved in a second extraordinary swap deal negotiation.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday that Chelsea are offering three star players in exchange for star man Alexander Isak, who the north-east giants are loathe to sell this summer.

Newcastle chase Elanga deal as Anderson bound for Nottingham Forest

Newcastle United believe they can develop Elanga into a first-choice winger for years to come, particularly if talismanic key figures such as Gordon are forced to depart for financial purposes.

The Swedish international scored five goals and claimed nine assists in 36 Premier League matches for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men last season as they avoided relegation.

Elanga also has 17 full caps for his nation as well as 55 matches for Manchester United under his belt, in which he scored four times.

With Anderson set to move in the opposite direction, Forest are looking to fill the void left by the sale of Remo Freuler to Bologna, along with the departure of Cheikhou Kouyate.

A Newcastle youth product, 22-year-old Anderson would be leaving Tyneside after 13 years growing up at the club, having made 55 senior appearances.
