Newcastle United have set their sights on signing highly-rated Norwich goalkeeper Jon McCracken, Football Insider understands.

The 19-year-old was third-choice goalkeeper at the newly-promoted Premier League club last season and was part of the matchday squad travelling home and away with Daniel Farke’s side.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider the club are exploring a move for McCracken as they look to bolster their keeping options this summer.

McCracken joined Norwich from Hamilton in 2016 and he is now ready to move this window in search of regular football.

The Canaries are understood to be willing to let McCracken transfer for free in a bid to kick-start his career and Newcastle are plotting a swoop to beat clubs north and south of the border to his signature.

The Scotland youth international has yet to make his first-team debut for Norwich, but he has been a regular in the club’s Under-23s side.

His performances in Premier League 2 have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs, and there is expected to be some developments behind the scenes in coming weeks.

In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are in pole position to sign a big name after a major transfer development.
