Newcastle are interested in bringing 19-year-old goalkeeper Ionut Radu from Italian giants Inter Milan, according to a report.
Italian football website Tuttomercatoweb claim that the Magpies are monitoring the young goalkeeper, who has served as understudy to Samir Handanovic and Juan-Pablo Carrizo this season.
The Romanian goalkeeper made his debut for Inter in May 2016, coming off the bench to replace Carrizo in a 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo on the final day of the Serie A season.
The report also says that Italian side Cagliari are interested in Radu, who signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2020 back in October.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle are blessed with options between the sticks, so this report should be taken with a pinch of salt. The Magpies have three international keepers on their books in the shape of Tim Krul, Rob Elliot and Mats Selz. Add to this the experienced Karl Darlow and England U-21 keeper Freddie Woodman and you have five top quality pegs trying to fit into one goalkeeper shaped hole. If Newcastle were to bring in Radu, it would mean the departure of at least two of the current goalkeepers, at St James’ Park, either on loan or permanently. That is not something that is likely to happen, especially with young Woodman so highly rated by the Magpies coaches.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the club can secure a £6.5m signing on one condition.
