Newcastle remain in talks with local rivals Middlesbrough over a transfer for Karl Darlow, according to a report.
The Daily Mail have claimed on their website that the two north east sides are still in discussions over a move for the 26-year-old.
The report details that Boro, who are now preparing for a season in the Championship are also interested in West Ham stopper Darren Randolph.
However, the Magpies are also reported to be interested in the Hammers man following the east London club’s signing of Joe Hart and Rafa Benitez’ side could win that race.
Darlow himself made the switch to St. James’ Park two years a go in a deal from Nottingham Forest alongside centre-back Jamaal Lascelles.
He has since played 46 times for Newcastle, keeping 18 clean sheets and conceding on 44 occasions.
The stopper also spent much of the last campaign as the club’s number one as they lifted the Championship title, but he could now be set for a departure.
Football Insider verdict:
Clubs often have to be ruthless after winning promotion in terms of cutting their losses with players who simply are not good enough and that means players such as Darlow, who played big roles in helping their side win promotion are cut adrift. Now, there is no doubting that the stopper is good enough for a Championship team, but given his nine Premier League matches have seen him concede on 11 occasions, it is clear that the Magpies need a safer pair of hands between the sticks.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are interest in this 18-year-old striker, who has had a £1million bid rejected for.
