Newcastle must agree terms for red hot striker ahead of his contract expiring in summer
There was a time when Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong was tipped to be the next big thing out of St James’ Park but that prophecy has so far failed to come to fruition.
The 21-year-old, a graduate of the Magpies’ youth academy, was tipped to shine as a result of his pace and ability in front of goal, and has managed to pick up 21 appearances for the senior side, although is still yet to score his first goal.
However, after a bright loan spell away at Coventry City, where he netted 20 times in 40 outings, his career has gone off the boil, with disappointing times at both Barnsley and Bolton Wanderers in recent years.
His inability to net in the Championship, with just seven strikes in his 56 appearances, has threatened to put an end to his career on Tyneside, but he may well have just rescued himself with his displays for Blackburn Rovers, who he joined on loan back in the January window.
Having netted just three times for Bolton in his 23 outings during the first half of the season, he has already shown some red hot form with five strikes in 11 appearances, including five in his last six matches.

His contract at Newcastle is set to expire this summer, and there would have been doubts over his future while at Bolton, but this resurgence shows what a bit of confidence can do, and it could be that Armstrong is just a late bloomer.
Another year on his deal, and even perhaps some time in the senior squad at St James’ Park, should be enough to judge whether he has what it takes.
