Newcastle stars 'in for a shock' from Howe after Twitter reveal - Pundit

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie insists Newcastle United's first-team stars will have been "shocked" by Eddie Howe's training methods.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Magpies will instantly improve under their new boss.

On 14 November, The Chronicle reported a Newcastle source describing Howe's approach to training as "transformational".

The new Toon boss had his side train at St James' Park on Saturday as they gear up for this weekend's clash against Brentford.

The club has also shared numerous images of Howe hard at work on the training ground following his appointment on 8 November.

McAvennie insists Newcastle's out of form players won't know what has hit them after a week with their new manager.

"I think those Newcastle players are in for a shock," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"What we have seen from Howe already is that desire to train and work incredibly hard.

"You can tell from what Newcastle have shared on Twitter. Howe was like this at Bournemouth, it's why he was successful.

"A lot of those Newcastle players will have only known Newcastle under Ashley and Bruce.

"Howe will be a shock to the system. He's meticulous and he should get those playing so much better straight away.

"They were awful under Bruce, I said that at the time. There was no plan there.

"That will all change now and from what we are seeing, the players will either need to step up or leave."

Newcastle go into Saturday's game looking for their first win of the season.

As it stands, they are five points from safety in 19th place.
