Newcastle United are working on signing an inverted right-sided winger who is of top drawer quality, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that this specific position is something that Eddie Howe wants to improve as he targets a "brilliant' player.

The Magpies had attempted to solve that problem on deadline day, but their bid for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga was rejected.

Sources tell Football Insider that pressure is growing on Paul Mitchell and the recruitment team after having a very quiet summer window.

Howe missed out on signing a right-winger, while the club also failed to land Marc Guehi after weeks of negotiations.

Newcastle United could look to Kevin Zenon to answer this issue

The Magpies have been linked with Boca Juniors’ Kevin Zenon, who could be an answer to that problem because he is naturally left-footed.

The 23-year-old has a £12.6million release clause, should Newcastle want to trigger it in the January transfer window.

However, he is currently under a long-term contract at Boca Juniors, with his deal not expiring until 2028.

One player who is not expected to be heading to St. James’ Park is free agent Adrien Rabiot, who departed Juventus at the end of last season.
