Kieran Maguire issues 'disaster' prediction as Newcastle's plan explained

Relegation would be a “disaster ” for Newcastle United fans but have very little impact on the owners’ lofty long-term ambitions.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the post-takeover club’s fight to beat the drop.

The Daily Mail reported on 23 October that many top-flight clubs have pledged not to trade with Newcastle in January.

The clubs in question are understood to hope that the new-money Magpies will be relegated at the end of the campaign.

It is claimed that Newcastle, who have just four points after 10 games, will focus on luring players from European clubs in the face of the embargo.

Maguire predicts that the situation could be obtrusive in the short term but that it will have no impact on Newcastle’s grand ambitions for the future.

“It will have no long-term impact on their strategy,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“It will be seen as a temporary hiccup by the owners. For the fans, it’ll be a disaster and it will make it more difficult to attract players in the short term,

“But I’m sure the owners see Newcastle United as a long-term project. I can’t see them leaving any time soon.

“The fact that Abramovich and Mansour are both now into their second decade as owners of their club is telling.

“I think the Newcastle owners will be of a similar viewpoint. There is nothing to be gained from flipping the club for a profit in three to five years.
