Newcastle United could change system after source's Sven Botman update - Campbell
Newcastle United could switch to a three at the back if they get a deal for Lille defender Sven Botman over the line.
That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the potential arrival of the 22-year-old at St. James’ Park.
The Magpies failed in an attempt to sign Botman in January and have re-opened talks this summer.
However, Football Insider sources understand (16 June) that AC Milan have leapfrogged Newcastle in the chase for the left-footed centre-back.
Eddie Howe already has a left-footed centre-half in Dan Burn.
When asked by Football Insider if Botman’s arrival would signal a change of system on Tyneside, Campbell said: “Botman would give Newcastle versatility.

“They could play a three or five at the back, depending on how you look at it, with wing-backs. There is enough players even if there was a couple of injuries.
“We have seen Dan Burn play left-back and centre-half. He can do both to a high level.
“Botman would give Newcastle quality and flexibility, which managers love. Managers love to have options.
“It is good to see Newcastle making moves for quality young players like Botman. I think it’s the right approach to take.”
Botman made 32 appearances across all competitions for Lille last season and scored three times.
He helped the club win the Ligue 1 title in the 2020-21 campaign.
