Newcastle United could make 'big statement' after Allan Saint-Maximin reveal via Sky - pundit

Newcastle United could make “a big statement” next season if “the right signings” are made, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Magpies have to show ambition to attract big names in the next window.

Speaking to Sky Sports (26 April), Allan Saint-Maximin claimed “every player in the world would want to be part” of the project at St. James’ Park.

The Magpies have gone from strength to strength since the January transfer window, in which Chris Wood, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes came through the door.

Eddie Howe’s side are currently ninth in the table and 14 points ahead of the relegation zone.

When asked by Football Insider if Saint-Maximin is right in his assessment of Newcastle’s profile, Campbell said: “Money will talk.

“Newcastle have to show they are willing to bring in big names. If they do that more high profile players will join. It’s a snowball effect. They have to show that they are willing though.

“If they can get moving in the market quickly they have a real good chance of making a big statement next season.

“I expect them to make key signings. Money is not the be all and end all. You have to spend it wisely and show that you are serious. The right signings can change the whole mentality at the club.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Chris Wood could be sold for ‘big-money’ arrival after Newcastle development.
