Newcastle United expected to land 'sensational signing' after Christian Eriksen update - pundit
Alex McLeish has tipped Newcastle United to make a “sensational” signing after reportedly holding talks over a deal for Christian Eriksen.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Magpies are an “attractive proposition” for players under their new ownership.
As reported by the Northern Echo (14 June), Newcastle have held preliminary talks with Eriksen’s representatives over a move to St James’ Park but accept they may struggle to lure the 30-year-old to Tyneside.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (23 June), Tottenham are among the clubs to have revisited their interest in the Denmark international.
Eriksen is available on a free contract, with his terms at Brentford expiring this summer.
McLeish admitted while the playmaker may not join Newcastle, the Magpies are still likely to seal a high-profile signing.

Asked if he thought Newcastle had any chance of winning the race for Eriksen, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “This is where the world changes. Newcastle are now a very attractive proposition for players due to the fact that they have rich benefactors.
“They’re people who can spend a lot of money on world-class players. Is there going to be a shift in terms of the dynamics of top teams? Are Man United going to continue to hover under the elite? New kids on the block, like Newcastle, are going to spend big money.
“You would think that somewhere along the line, there’s going to be a sensational signing for Newcastle. Eriksen would be sensational.
“He does have the choice of a Man United, probably. The name of Man United could lure him before anybody else.”
