Newcastle United expected to open Miguel Almiron contract talks imminently after Eddie Howe reveal - pundit

Paul Robinson expects Newcastle United will engage in contract talks with Miguel Almiron imminently.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 28-year-old has been “like a new signing” for Eddie Howe’s side this season.

Almiron has been one of the standout players in the Premier League in the 2022-23 campaign.

The winger’s deal at St. James’ Park runs until the end of June 2024.

As quoted by Newcastle World (30 October), Howe revealed no contract talks have taken place yet but suggested they would “at a later date.”

When asked by Football Insider if Almiron had played himself into a bumper new deal with the Magpies, Robinson said: “Almiron has been like a new signing this season.

“He has been outstanding.

“He will have 18 months left on his deal come the January transfer window so I am sure there are planning talks over a new one soon.

“His ability has never been in question but now he is adding goals to his game. He has the confidence now to cause teams real problems.

“He is right up there with the very best in the Premier League this season. It is not only goals that he brings, he brings assists as well. He looks the all-round player this year.

“Eddie Howe has to take a lot of credit for that. He is getting the best out of that squad.”
