Keegan stance on Newcastle 'mess' revealed after Bruce rant
Kevin Keegan wants “something special” back at Newcastle United – but that will never happen while Mike Ashley remains at the helm.
So says ex-Premier League forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent remarks made by Magpies boss Steve Bruce.
The under-fire manager was on the defensive when asked by The Chronicle on 11 September if he had been on holiday over the international break.
“Do you think I really have to answer that to you?” he demanded before claiming, “that’s why [the fans] are the way they are”.
A section of Newcastle supporters in attendance for their 4-1 defeat to Man United on Saturday displayed a banner calling for Bruce’s resignation.
The club is in a state of limbo as Ashley attempts to force through a takeover deal with PCP Capital Partners.

And Whelan reveals that former manager Keegan is desperate for the good times to return to Tyneside.
“Bruce’s job is a thankless task,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“He’s got no money to spend. Players go and no players really come in.
“The budget is Mike Ashley’s money and he doesn’t want to spend because he’s looking to sell the club.
“Newcastle actually played quite well at the weekend. But look at how much Man United have spent, their blueprint is completely different.
“The fans deserve better. You listen to Alan Shearer and I spoke to Kevin Keegan the other day, they want something special back at Newcastle.
“Under that ownership, that’s not going to happen any time soon. Everybody wants to see good football back at Newcastle, like when they had Asprilla and Ginola.
“They are standing still and aren’t ever going to move on from this mess until someone else owns that club.”
