Newcastle United must give up on Tino Livramento as ‘silly’ injury update issued
Newcastle United supporters must consider the idea that selling Tino Livramento is less frustrating in the long run.
The 23-year-old has been sidelined since mid-April, adding to the 31 matches for club and country that the full-back has already missed during the 2025-26 campaign.
Of course, it has been a frustrating season for the England international, especially ahead of the 2026 World Cup, but there needs to be a serious conversation about his future at St James’ Park.
Despite the multiple injuries, big clubs continue to stake an interest in Livramento, and while he’s one of the most talented defenders in the Premier League, the Magpies are unable to get the best out of him.

Livramento is not one of the highest-paid players by a long shot. Still, it is a lot of money going towards a player who has started just 14 Premier League games in 2025-26.
At the very least, Eddie Howe needs to sign a direct back-up during the upcoming summer transfer window, but it might be a better idea in the long term to cash in and secure a replacement.
There was hope that the 23-year-old could return before the end of the season, but Howe’s latest update has just poured cold water over that ahead of the game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, 10 May.
| Season | Days missed | No. of injuries | Games missed |
| 25-26 | 146 | 4 | 33 |
| 24-25 | 6 | 1 | 1 |
| 23-24 | 56 | 3 | 12 |
| 21-22 | 383 | 2 | 68 |
Speaking to the media, Howe said, “Tino is doing well. He is really improving and running on the grass again. I don’t think we will see him again this season.
“We could maybe push him for the Fulham game, but that would feel silly.”
Who could Newcastle United sign as a replacement?
It has already emerged that Howe is an admirer of Ben White of Arsenal, with his future uncertain at the Emirates Stadium this summer. He could be a solid option this summer.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Wolves’ Hugo Bueno is also an option for Newcastle, especially after their relegation to the Championship, but several clubs are vying for his signature.
Whether the Magpies cash in on Livramento or not, it is blatantly obvious that a new full-back is needed, as a first-choice option or as a back-up.
Howe simply can’t rely on the former Chelsea academy gem. When he’s fit, he’s one of the best players on the pitch, but the injuries have left a sour taste in the mouth at St James’ Park.
