Newcastle United must keep an eye on Justin Kluivert’s impact as Bournemouth return looms
Newcastle United should return to keeping tabs on Bournemouth star Justin Kluivert ahead of the summer window as he returns to action following a four-month injury layoff.
Kluivert was linked with a move to St James’ Park this time last year after a stellar campaign under Andoni Iraola.
He struggled to continue that form at the start of this season, and was forced to undergo knee surgery in January after suffering a serious injury against Arsenal.
The Dutch winger is now back in training with the Cherries and looks set to be given some game time before the campaign ends as they chase European qualification.
Newcastle’s transfer plans could involve signing a new left winger, as they are uncertain if Anthony Gordon will stay this summer, and they should start watching Kluivert again over the next month ahead of a potential cut-price move for his services.

According to a new report from the Daily Echo, Kluivert could return to the Bournemouth squad this weekend as they host Crystal Palace.
He has not been at his best this season, even when fit, but wants some minutes over the next four matches to earn a spot in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.

Newcastle were interested in his services last summer, with reports at the time claiming that the Cherries were set to demand around £25million for his signature.
That was after a season in which he scored 13 times in 39 appearances, including a hat-trick in Bournemouth’s 4-1 win on Tyneside in January 2025.
His price tag will surely now have decreased after a tough campaign, while he has two years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium and is still only entering his prime at 26-years-old.
Iraola’s impending exit could see numerous Cherries players want to leave for pastures new, and Kluivert should be on Newcastle’s radar once again, with all factors considered.
They must be keeping a keen eye on the Dutchman over the next month to see if he is back in form before potentially making a move before the World Cup starts.
What is the latest on Gordon’s future at Newcastle?
Newcastle star Gordon has been sidelined with a hip problem for their last two games, with fans annoyed as his injury has coincided with increased links to Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old has not been at his best this season, but remains a key man for Eddie Howe and is his starting left winger when fit.
Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle are ready to accept an offer for Gordon this summer, with Liverpool also interested, but the Daily Mail‘s latest update claims that he has not asked for a move away as yet.
He certainly seems set to garner real interest over the next few months, and Kluivert would be a shrewd, realistic replacement for the England star if he moves on from Newcastle.
