Newcastle United news: Campbell details Callum Wilson 'downfall' after journalist's reveal
Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Callum Wilson after the Newcastle United striker was named in England’s 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton goalscorer suggested only Harry Kane and Ivan Toney are ahead of the 30-year-old in the pecking order.
Wilson starred for the Magpies in a 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday (29 October).
England manager Gareth Southgate was in attendance at St. James’ Park to watch the ex-Bournemouth striker score a brace.
According to The Athletic (1 November), Wilson is on Southgate’s 55-man longlist for the forthcoming World Cup.
Wilson has four England caps to his name and made his international debut in November 2018.

When asked by Football Insider if Wilson should be named as Kane’s understudy for the World Cup, Campbell said: “Ivan Toney has been brilliant this season.
“But Callum Wilson has been a real handful this season. I know he has his injuries and that has probably been his downfall. We have to remember though, he is already an England international.
“As a player, he respects nobody’s reputation. He gets stuck in.
“I know Gareth Southgate was there watching him against Aston Villa.
“Of all the strikers playing right now, Ivan Toney is probably in pole position to be understudy to Harry Kane. But Wilson is catching the eye right now. He is doing the business.”
