Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he can understand why Kieran Trippier has travelled with his Newcastle United teammates to support them.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Trippier questioned whether he was allowed to back his teammates.

It comes after Agbonlahor told this site after Newcastle's 2-0 win over Brentford last month (26 February) the 31-year-old had travelled to London on crutches "for the cameras".

The defender posted a photoshopped image on Twitter of himself in the dressing room after the 2-1 win at Southampton last week (11 March).

"You know what, I can see where he's coming from," Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"He's doing his best to support his teammates. I just saw it as, with some injuries like a hamstring or pulling your calf, ones that aren't severe then that's fine.

"But if you've done an injury that is breaking a bone, an injury like his, the advice from a physio would usually be a bit of rest, stay off it.

"If he wants to support the team, then that's a good thing, definitely.

"I did a bad injury over the summer and if I didn't have to be on the crutches then I wouldn't be."

Newcastle

After the win at Southampton, Newcastle have suffered back to back defeats in the Premier League.

The Magpies still sit in 14th in the Premier League and are next in action against Tottenham after the international break (3 April).
