While the Scottish winger failed to notch up a goal or an assist, he posed a constant threat to the Reds’ defence, and delivered several dangerous balls which had Jurgen Klopp’s side worried.

However he also showed his determination off the ball with a resolute defensive display, working tirelessly alongside right back DeAndre Yedlin to frustrate the Liverpool attack.

His performance did not go unnoticed by the Newcastle faithful, and they turned to Twitter to sing the Scotland international’s praises in helping secure a point.

Ritchie has established himself as a firm fan favourite at St James’ Park following his arrival from fellow Premier League side Bournemouth in the summer of 2016.

He played a crucial role in the Magpies securing promotion from the Championship back to the top flight, scoring 16 goals and notching 10 assists from 48 appearances across all competitions.

He has continued his fine form back in the Premier League, having set his team mates up for four of the seven goals scored during the campaign.

He will now link up with the Scottish international side for their World Cup qualifiers during the international break before returning to Tyneside.
