Wood move to Newcastle 'one of the most disgraceful in history' as new details emerges - pundit

If Burnley sold Chris Wood to Newcastle United it would be “one of the most disgraceful deals in football history”, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Sean Dyche may even quit Burnley if they sold Wood to their relegation rivals.

Newcastle are closing in on a deal for the towering striker after holding talks with him.

A St James’ Park source has told Football Insider that the forward has been given the green light to head to the club on Tuesday night for a medical.

Eddie Howe’s side are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after Callum Wilson was ruled out for eight weeks with a calf injury.

“If Burnley sell Chris Wood to Newcastle that is one of the most disgraceful deals in football history,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The most disgraceful selling of a player in football history.

“You are in a relegation battle, a scrap with Newcastle. Why on earth would you sell your best player?

“Cornet is out for the whole month, who are you going to play up front?

“I’m sure someone like Sean Dyche would walk out if they sold Chris Wood.

“I don’t see that happening at all, not even at £40million. He could be the one that saves you £100million by staying in the Premier League, why would you sell him at all?

“It just doesn’t make sense, to be honest.”

Newcastle and Burnley are level on points as they occupy the final two relegation places.

However, Burnley have two games in hand over their rivals.
