Newcastle United to accelerate Curtis Jones deal as Joe Willock transfer decision already made

Curtis Jones could soon switch life at Anfield for Newcastle United as the midfielder’s frustrations continue on Merseyside.

The Liverpool academy graduate has faced limited minutes during Arne Slot’s reign, with several Premier League clubs now being alerted to his situation ahead of the summer.

Eddie Howe’s side are one of those clubs linked with the 26-year-old, joined by Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Despite these big names, Newcastle should be leading the race for Jones’ signature, and the transfer chiefs might be about to make some room in the squad for his arrival.

Curtis Jones could easily replace Joe Willock

Football Insider understands Jones is “not happy” at Anfield, which the Magpies could take full advantage of. But due to the club’s financial constraints, it might be a one-player-in, one-player-out scenario.

And according to The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, with Joe Willock set to enter the final 12 months of his deal, those at St James’ Park are prepared to listen to offers ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

It is understood that several potential replacements are already being monitored ahead of the summer, and Jones should be one of the contenders to take his spot in the squad.

Many supporters at Anfield have been baffled by the treatment of the 25-year-old. While many of Howe’s decisions this season have been questioned, St James’ Park could represent a new start for the midfielder.

Liverpool star already has the seal of approval from Anthony Gordon

Although Anthony Gordon is expected to join Bayern Munich, he could provide some much-needed positivity ahead of a potential deal for Jones.

When asked about how much time he spent with the player at a previous England camp, he said: “Probably every second! Unless we’re in our rooms showering after training, or asleep, we’re together.

“We don’t go in our rooms, it’s like a rule. So, if we’re not training or in a meeting, we’re not in our rooms, so we’re always together. Sometimes we just sit and talk for hours.”

If the winger doesn’t leave for Germany this summer, he could play a key role in persuading Jones over to St James’ Park. If he does, well, Howe will just have to use his own charm to sell the project.
