Newcastle United told to forget Anthony Gordon and sign 25-year-old after journalist's update - Campbell

Kevin Campbell has urged Newcastle United to go all out to sign Leeds winger Jack Harrison this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 25-year-old would be a better option for the Magpies than Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.

Sources told this site (21 July) that Newcastle’s opening bid of £18million for Jack Harrison was rejected by Leeds.

According to the Northern Echo‘s Scott Wilson (24 July), Eddie Howe’s side are interested in Harrison, Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes and Everton’s Anthony Gordon.

The Foxes are understood to value Barnes in the region of £50million.

Leeds want £35million for Harrison, who has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.

When asked by Football Insider who would be the best option at St. James’ Park, Campbell said: “Gordon is the youngest of the three but Jack Harrison would be the one for me.

“I think he is a cracking player, I really do.

“He would suit the way Eddie Howe wants to play. He would suit them down to the ground. His game, the way he grafts up and down that left-hand side, it would be perfect.

“He scores goals and gets assists as well. His numbers are very good.

“He has that Leeds mentality of press, press, press. I think he would be the ideal signing.

“He might be the cheapest of the lot as well.”
