Newcastle United want to blow Everton out of the water in the race to sign Portugese record-breaker Matchoi Bobo Djalo in January, Football Insider has learned.
The right winger, 16, is on the radar of leading Premier League clubs after bursting onto the scene with top-flight outfit Pacos de Ferreira this season.
A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that scouts from the club have regularly watched Djalo in action this season and they are plotting a move for him ahead of the forthcoming transfer window.
The Magpies are aware of strong competition for the teenager’s services from rivals Everton and Southampton, as well as European giants and Italian champions Juventus.
Pacos de Ferreira are vulnerable to losing Djalo even though he has a contract that runs untilt the summer of 2022.
They are expecting bids for the rising star in January after he put leading clubs on alert by becoming the youngest-ever player to feature in the Portuguese Primeira Liga when he came off the bench for Pacos de Ferreira against Benfica earlier this season.
The teenager has gone on to make two further appearances in all competitions for Pacos de Ferreira and his emergence into the first-team at such a young age has had top European clubs beating a path to his door.
Djalo is regarded as one of the best attacking talents among a new crop of emerging stars in the country of the current European champions.
Capped by Portugal at age-group level, he is regarded as capable of progressing into the senior national team.
In other Newcastle United news, Steve Bruce has given the green light to January exit of Rafa Benitez regular.
