Bruno Guimaraes drops social media hint over his future after Arsenal offer
Newcastle United captain and Arsenal target Bruno Guimaraes has taken to Instagram to drop a potential hint on his future.
The 28-year-old is the subject of strong interest from the Premier League champions this summer, and has told the Magpies that he would like to join them.
The Gunners are yet to launch an official bid for the Brazil international, but talks involving the players' agent are reportedly ongoing.
Guimaraes has two years remaining on his contract with the option of an additional year, and Newcastle are determined to keep hold of him.
Should Arsenal come up with an appropriate fee, however, the Magpies may be forced to reluctantly sanction their captain's departure.
Bruno Guimaraes drops social media hint
There is little doubt about Guimaraes' deep love for Newcastle. The midfielder joined in 2022 and has become intertwined with the St James' Park faithful.
He is the heartbeat of Howe's team and the Magpies' project since the arrival of the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
His exit would be heart-breaking just as much as it would be devastating for the team, but even the most passionate Newcastle fan can likely understand his wishes.
Guimaraes will turn 29 in November, with the next year likely representing his last chance to move to a club capable of challenging for the Premier League and the Champions League.
Without a doubt, the Brazilian would have wanted to do it at Newcastle, but with his chances of lifting the game's biggest silverware fading, the prospect of moving to Arsenal is incredibly attractive.
Guimaraes re-affirmed his appreciation for Newcastle on Saturday by changing his Instagram profile picture from one of the Brazil team, to one of him and his family at St James' Park.
Many have taken that change as an indication that the midfielder may be set to stay this summer, but it just as much be a sign of an incoming farewell.
Newcastle fans left in limbo amid Arsenal delay
There has been an air of uncertainty surrounding the potential Guimaraes deal since Arsenal's interest was first reported.
The midfielder has since communicated his desire to join the Gunners and is no longer at the World Cup, yet the delay remains.
The Premier League champions are reportedly still yet to officially make contact with Newcastle over a potential deal.
Whether a sign of an unwillingness to meet the Magpies' asking price or mere negotiating tactics, the situation has left fans of both teams waiting in limbo.
