Bruno Guimaraes sends heartfelt message after Newcastle exit confirmed

Newcastle United stars have taken to social media to share their tributes for Eddie Howe following confirmation of his departure.

The 48-year-old has stepped down after nearly five years in charge of the Magpies and will be replaced by Al-Ahli boss Matthias Jaissle.

Despite being under pressure at the end of a dismal season, it was reported just weeks ago that the Englishman was backed at St James' Park and ready to lead his team forward.

However, Newcastle's painful summer transfer window appears to have had its effect on Howe, who has lost several of his key men.

Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have already departed and it appears a mere matter of time before club captain Bruno Guimaraes joins them.

The Brazilian was among those to send messages to Howe following confirmation of his exit, which comes as Arsenal close in on an agreement for his signature.

Howe arrived at St James' Park in the wake of the Saudi takeover in November 2021.

Under Steve Bruce, Newcastle sat 19th in the Premier League and on course for relegation with a five-point gap to safety.

One of the first things Howe did was to move Joelinton, a £40m striker who had scored just six league goals in two seasons, into central midfield.

The results were almost instantaneous, and the signings of Kieran Tripper, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn in January saw the team grow to a new level, ultimately finishing 11th.

The years since have seen Newcastle qualify for the Champions League twice and end their 70-year wait for a trophy when they won the Carabao Cup in 2025.

Guimaraes, who has taken part in almost the entirety of that journey, took to Instagram and wrote: "Thanks for making me a better player and person. No words I can say will really say how much I enjoyed being your player."

Trippier, who has since moved on to Wolves following the expiration of his contract at Newcastle this summer, also thanked Howe.

In a post, he wrote: "You brought the good times back to Newcastle winning a trophy, a day myself and the fans will never forget."

Fabian Schar, who predates his former manager and will outlast him with the Magpies, wrote: "I am forever grateful for the time we had together and the things we achieved."

Jacob Murphy was a key feature of the Howe era and may well join Everton this summer following the Englishman's departure.

"In you, we found hope, stability, and an identity that resonated through everyone in black and white," he wrote.
