Newcastle remain keen on signing AC Milan star Christopher Nkunku as he looks to leave San Siro before the transfer deadline passes, sources have told Football Insider.

Matthias Jaissle is looking to add some extra quality to his squad before the window closes after several high-profile departures from St James' Park.

Newcastle have been linked with several attacking midfield signings, with Nkunku now on their radar as a possible addition.

The Frenchman has been told that he can leave AC Milan by new manager Ruben Amorim after just one season at the club.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle are considering an offer for his services as they look to capitalise on a great market opportunity.

Nkunku has prior experience of Premier League football with Chelsea, and showed glimpses of his talent in his two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle fans are concerned that their squad looks thin ahead of the start of the new league season, particularly in attacking midfield, with Joe Willock and Nick Woltemade each linked away from the club.

Nkunku previously shone at RB Leipzig, and proved at Chelsea that he has all the qualities to be a talisman for Newcastle if given the opportunity.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "He's a player that's been on their radar before, maybe it is a bit of easy speculation in that respect, but if an opportunity like this comes up for anybody, you would be foolish not to look at it.

"It does seem that Nkunku doesn't feature in Ruben Amorim's long-term plans at AC Milan, so the Italian giants are willing to let him move on. Newcastle are in the market for attacking reinforcements, and Nkunku has got Premier League experience from his time at Chelsea, although maybe it wasn't the best time for him there."

Newcastle plan to accept 'cut-price' Joe Willock offer as late move 'expected'

Newcastle plan to let Willock leave for a 'cut-price' fee

Willock has been linked with a move away from St James' Park throughout this window after struggling for regular starts last season.

The 27-year-old is believed to be on the radar of Turkish club Besiktas, but did start the Magpies' final pre-season friendly against Strasbourg last week.

A late injury may keep him sidelined for their league opener, with sources revealing to Football Insider this week that Jaissle is happy to let Willock leave in the final knockings of the window.
