'He's finished, Time to go' - Newcastle fans want defender out after 'calamitous' Everton flashpoint
Newcastle fans want the club to cash in on Sven Botman after another mistake in their latest pre-season friendly against Everton.
Matthias Jaissle saw his side slip to a 3-1 defeat to fellow Premier League stalwarts Everton in his second game as Newcastle manager on Wednesday afternoon.
The Toffees took a three-goal lead through Thierno Barry, Iliman Ndiaye and Tyrique George before Harvey Barnes scored a late consolation at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
Jaissle will have learnt a lot about his squad in their latest outing since he took over, as he made 10 changes at half-time to be able to watch the majority of his players.
Botman's mistake led to the Magpies going 1-0 down in the 27th minute as Barry capitalised and eventually scored low past Lukas Hornicek.
The Dutch international has been a key man for Newcastle over the years, but supporters have had enough of his lacklustre recent showings.
Newcastle fans want Sven Botman sold after his slip-up against Everton
Botman's form suffered last season as Newcastle struggled under Eddie Howe, as he was a mainstay in a backline that shipped 55 league goals.
The 26-year-old has been targeted by top European clubs over the years, but stayed loyal to the Magpies and signed a new long-term contract in January.
His poor form has continued into pre-season, however, with several mistakes in their 4-1 loss to Bristol City and another against Everton on Wednesday.
Botman misjudged the bounce of a long ball and then allowed Barry too much space to open the scoring in the first half.
Magpies fans reacted with disgust on X, with many calling for him to be sold as one wrote: "Botman needs to go before the window closes! Absolutely woeful! And he has been for some time now!"
While another said: "Think we need to sell Botman while we can still generate a fee for him. The lad is finished at 26."
And one fan added: "Do we have time to sell Botman? He is looking absolutely pony in pre-season."
Could Newcastle sign a centre-back this summer?
Jaissle may well look to bolster his centre-back ranks as Botman struggles for form before the season has even truly started.
Giorgio Scalvini is the main centre-back to be linked to the Magpies in recent weeks, amid rumours that Atalanta are open to cashing in on his services before he enters the final year of his contract.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle are the frontrunners to sign Scalvini, but Chelsea could pose a real threat after joining the race to sign him alongside Spurs.
