How Woolsington Hall move could impact Newcastle's transfers - expert

Newcastle United's new training facilities will make a positive impact, but anyone searching for instant results will be disappointed.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that moving training complexes is unlikely to make the desired impact.

It has been suggested previously that big-name players will always prefer a move to London clubs over St James' Park due to its positioning on the map.

The Magpies missed out on several big names last summer, such as Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo and James Trafford, with the same happening again.

In recent weeks, not only have the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali left, but Newcastle have seen moves for Victor Munoz and Johan Manzambi hijacked.

Some have suggested that were the Magpies to move their training ground closer to the centre of England, they may not have that problem.

Instead, Newcastle have spent £190million on purchasing Woolsington Hall estate, 260 acres of land next to Newcastle International Airport, and will move there ahead of the 2029-30 season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson explained that, while there might be some positives, it is unlikely to keep players for longer than they already do.

"They've not had a problem recruiting players over the years. Maybe if you were being very harsh, you could say some of these players would have stayed longer," he said.

"But it's not massively noticeable, is it? They managed to recruit very, very good players from all around the world for the last thirty years.

"It's never been a major problem. And is the training ground going to be the difference? I don't know. I suspect no. It might slightly make a difference, but it's not going move the dial materially.

"Ultimately, it's much more about direction of travel, money, other players that are going to be there, the chance of winning things.

"All of that is helped by having a fantastic training facility. It definitely helps. It's not negative, but it's not an immediate overnight thing."

Who else could Newcastle sign this summer?

There is only a week remaining of the summer transfer window, but that is still plenty of time for twists and turns to emerge at St James' Park.

Signings have been no issue for the Magpies, certainly given their new tactics in the market, but several big-name outgoings have hurt the squad.

Man City's Nico Gonzalez appears set to join the team before the window shuts, though Football Insider understands that a deal for Christopher Nkunku is now unlikely.

Any further business is likely to be exits, though. Nick Woltemade appears unsettled after just a single season at the club, while Lewis Hall's future will remain a talking point until the window shuts.
