Kieran Trippier could be set for instant Newcastle return amid Wolves chaos
Kieran Trippier is reportedly considering an instant exit from Wolves just days after his arrival was confirmed.
The 35-year-old has reportedly been left furious by the decision to sack Rob Edwards, which seemingly came out of the blue on Thursday.
Cesar Peixoto is set to take charge at Molineux, and his first task will be to convince the defender and several other players that their futures continue to lie with Wolves.
Newcastle and Eddie Howe had been keen to agree a new contract with Trippier before he left, and they could well have another chance if he becomes a free agent once more.
Edwards was reportedly a big part of the reason behind the 35-year-old's decision to join Wolves, and he is now considering his options.
Trippier signed a contract and simply walking away from it will not be easy, but his lawyers will certainly be going over the fine print.
Kieran Trippier in Wolves regret
In isolation, Wolves' decision to sack Edwards was not a massively surprising one.
The 43-year-old was appointed in November and failed to ever get his team off the bottom of the Premier League table, winning just three league games from 27.
In fairness, Wolves already looked to have crumbled under Vitor Pereira and Edwards was likely handling a thankless task.
But if he had been sacked at the end of the season, there would have been few complaints. The timing is what has made the decision such a bizarre one.
Just days ago, Edwards was taking part in the videos that announced the signings of Trippier and Raul Jimenez, with both players indicating that he had been much of the reason behind their decisions to sign.
Now, the Wolves squad have been plunged into a situation in which they will have a new manager, who will likely arrive with completely different plans.
Keith Downie reported on Thursday night that Trippier is considering "ripping up his contract" and feels betrayed by the decision.
Eddie Howe's comments make his thoughts clear
If Trippier became available once more, there is no doubt that Eddie Howe would put a call in.
Only four players have played more games under the Englishman's management, with the manager also having had him at Burnley.
"Kieran has been magnificent for us on and off the pitch," he said in April after confirmation that Trippier would leave. "From the moment he walked through the door, he has helped to drive standards that have changed the club’s trajectory.
"His performances on the pitch have been to the highest level. Building strong partnerships with the players around him. His outstanding technical ability helped elevate the team and his strong crossing ability helped create many goals and chances for his teammates.
"His leadership skills have been invaluable. In difficult moments his experience has proved calming and his drive and will to win has inspired the players to keep pushing forward.”
